The issue about USA corporate worker wages made me wonder about what they paid workers in the Permian Basin area when the oil patch was really hot, about a decade or so ago. It was reported that many supermarkets had bulk goods in the aisles as they could not match what the patch was paying hourly.
ReplyDeleteMade me wonder how McD and similar were paying their workers out there, then, compared to the dFW metro areas. Or were they finding some people who desired the work environment of McD rather than the "in the weather, with muscle" of the oil patch?
I do know that some of the compression/transport companies seemed to "raid" car dealership service departments back then. In addition to higher wages, there were also offers of "paying for the kids' college tuition" and such, too. Many took them up on it and are still employed in that industry.
That last one? Why does that not surprise me?
