Gay Pride Was Not Born of a Need to Celebrate Being Gay, But Our Right to Exist Without Persecution.
Well put. Of course, there is something to celebrate in overcoming persecution, in what has historically been a hostile religious and cultural landscape.
This, the last day of Pride Month, down came our Pride Peace flag, up went the Donald Trump Fuck Doll.
Thanks to that giant, floating, orange turd, I have grown, at best, ambivalent about the American flag. At worst - disgusted in how our national symbol has been so perverted and corrupted by the MAGA right. Disgusted - watching that fucking traitor smugly wrap his arms around it. I feel that the flag needs to be in the #MeToo movement, or minimally given a Silkwood shower before being raised again.
But this, alas, is our nations anniversary of democracy and freedom. On that, going into the 4th of July weekend, I choose to ruminate on the real patriots; those from within my family who actually went overseas and bravely fought against fascism and for the sanctity of American democracy rather than dwell on the current events of the domestic traitors, turncoats and terrorists keen to undermine all of it.
The simple yet brave right to look people straight in the eyes, calmly sating "Yes, and so what?"
Self-confidence may have to be feigned at first, but it grows and settles with time until one actually feels proud being whoever they are, no matter any judgemental people we come across.
I concur with the idea that, although a whole month celebrating Gay Pride is really nice, it is a thing that each of us must appropriate and naturally live day to day, every day of the year, with as much respect for others sensibility as we’d like them to show towards our.
