Our House
This is the front of the house. In this picture the two areas on either side of the driveway have been freshly "terra-formed". The city offered to put in a swale to collect rainwater runoff from our roof, so we took them up on their offer. The swale is on the right-hand side; the left side merely runs onto the yard, but in a decorative way to mirror the right side. After they were done we had the driveway pressure-washed.
This is the swale area growth after a couple of seasons. It's fun to watch it fill up when we have a hard rain, which doesn't happen all that often.
This is the floor plan that was registered with the city. There are a few things that the builder changed. For instance, the front window is not a flat one, but a bay window, with a window seat. Also not on the plans are two skylights in the living room vaulted ceiling and one in the hall bathroom.
Jerry and I had been looking at condos but we didn't find anything we liked. Out of curiosity we looked into houses. This was the first one we saw and we fell in love with it.

Very nice. :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks so charming!
ReplyDeleteWe have been in our home 22 years this month. When we first looked at it, frankly, it was dump. The owner was an old Navy veteran and he liked us. I stood on the back deck (open at that time) with a vista overlooking Mount Hope Bay. My hand felt like it wanted to hold a coffee mug. The husband was running all over the the building like a kid in a candy shop; "OH MY GOD!! YOU GOTTA SEE [blah]!!!" We knew we found our home.
I know that feeling!
What a lovely story, Rade.
DeleteDespite the fact that my partner is 78 and I'm 64, we have decided to stay put in our home in our mixed neighborhood. 33 steps on three levels and all. It's a quirky house in a wonderful communitie that is not without its problems, but they are the best neighborhors!
ReplyDeleteI remember how excited you were when you bought it. It's all looking very lovely!
ReplyDeleteNice, practical house :)
ReplyDeleteA good idea to have the swale for drainage, some older homes have poor drainage and suffer damage over time as a result. Many of the newer homes have defects galore, as well as the new tracts being bought up by private equity and charging exorbitant rents. They don’t want anyone owning anything, thus making older homes desirable to buyers.
I’ll take the 10x10 bedroom at your place, when can I move in ?! :-)
