ATTENTION: Residents of Texas...

Texas Has Suspended More Than 1 Million Voters Ahead of Senate Race

If you’re one of the people who had their voter registration suspended, there’s still time to fix it.

Six percent of Texas’s voters - over 1.2 million people - have had their voter registrations suspended, and many might not even know about it.

The designation, which means that the voter’s county doesn’t know their address or thinks they’ve moved, doesn’t stop people from voting in November’s midterm elections, but it does make the process more difficult. If a voter shows up on Election Day and their registration is suspended, they have to fill out a “statement of residence” form, and if they’ve moved to a new county, they’ll either be required to vote in their old one or be given a provisional ballot, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Voters have until October 5 to update their registrations and can check their status on the Texas secretary of state’s website, at a county election office, or by mail. But with a number as high as 1.2 million people, the message may not reach many voters in time—especially if they haven’t moved and it’s the fault of a clerical error.

Unfortunately, the links in the article aren't functioning for me.

  1. The links in the article worked for me.

Given how critical this could be, with (as the article points out) several close races in Texas this year, the Democratic party really should take the lead in informing people and helping them re-register if needed.

    1. Rade, on blockwalks, one voter said he was voting for "Heels over Wheels". Abbott is wheelchair bound.

  3. Good ole boy Governor Abbott, keeping his state red, even if he has to manipulate and cheat every aspect of a free and fair election to do it. I have a vivid image of what I'd like to see happen to him. There he is, in his ACME wheelchair, being rapidly pushed by the Roadrunner(meep, meep) over the edge of a canyon where he stops in midair, looks at the camera as first his wheelchair drops out from under him, followed by his flailing body. (Use your imagination) :-)

  4. That's the really sneaky part of this: They don't notify those people. If they don't check, the first they'll know of it is when they try to vote.

  5. It looks like Texas is a third world country...
In such a internet and linked world, even our credit card and driver's licence has to have our real address.
Here in Canada, if I move even in the same city, I have to mention it to EVERY things I'm doing business with.
For sure the first to be advice is my provincial and federal government. What is nice is that we have only to say it to both in a special address and they will change it in everywhere it's needed, mainly for my income taxe reports and my retirement benefits etc..
This include my registration on ALL of the voting lists, city, provincial and federal.
We don't have to constantly check if we are on any lists.

  6. And THIS will be just the beginning! it will never be the same again, then he has now opened Pandora's Box. If people turn out to vote in person again he will not be able to fight that.

    1. For the voting in person, hope that those voters can get to the voting places in a secure way. Seeing how Dump Trump talked about sending Ice there, this can badly turn out.
What a false democracy country you are living in...

  7. I wonder how many of them will find out about it here.

  8. In many news interviews, the state election operatives state that putting these voters into a "Suspense" orientation happens every election cycle. At the voting location, when the database error is discovered, the voter can file paperwork to get the errors corrected and then get a provisionary (or other word) ballot to vote. In prior times, the counting of provisionary vallots was never in question, but it CAN be this time.

The prior -to-last election cycle, that happened to me. The address discrepancy was probably due to a database change, so it was corrected at the voting location. I later went to the county election office to verify what was in their and the state's database. When the correction was made, I was sent a new voter ID card with the correct address on it. With "LANE" in the address rather than "ROAD".

I PREFER TO GO TO THE LOCAL ELECTION OFFICE AND LET THEM ACCESS THE TEXAS SECRETARY OF STATE'S WEBSITE!! In case, there is some software kink that separates inquiries by access point.
