2026.0610.0001-Wednesday...
Ah, that last one: Aye, there's the rub.
ReplyDeleteLet's take a moment to consider the ten commandments and their purpose. Obviously to control the population and keep them subservient to the religious masters. Incidentally, our current president has broken every one of the ten. Will he go to hell for his noncompliance? No...because there is no hell, nor heaven for that matter. Any sane person knows that fact. He will continue to fester and decay before our very eyes, and when the day comes, he will surely die, and that is all there will be of this abomination.
ReplyDeleteThou shalt not kill...okay, let's consider this. There doesn't seem to be any equivocation or exceptions to this one. But what about killing in a war? Are all the soldiers who killed their respective enemies all going to hell? Of course not! They died for what they were told was a just and righteous cause and that is all. War seems to be an effective form of population control. Besides, there wouldn't be enough room in this hell, what with all the murderers, blasphemers, idol worshippers, fornicators, non church goers, disrespectful children, billionaires who couldn't take their wealth with them to the fiery furnace, thieves, liars, guys lusting after their next door neighbor's wife and asses(don't we all keep a couple of asses in our backyards?), and a whole helluva lot of politicians.
Finally, my thoughts last night before I went to sleep...What if a robber/rapist broke into my home and wrested me out of my bed and threatened to rape and kill me if I didn't give him all my money. And somehow I miraculously grabbed my wooden t-ball bat and forcibly shoved it into his groin, then beat his head into a pulpy mess as he lay groaning on the ground. Would I go to hell for defending myself in my own home? You know the answer. By the way, that scenario makes for a great rape/murder fantasy.
Now see what religion has done to this poor sinner...turned my brain into a quagmire of observations and contradictions that have no real purpose in reality. As Pat at whkattk says, Aye, there's the rub. The end?
In the original Hebrew, the word is equivalent to "murder", not "kill" -- that is, the commandment means "Thou shalt not murder". Pretty much all societies recognize that some forms of killing don't qualify as murder -- self-defense and killing enemy soldiers in battle are usually examples.
DeleteThe authors of the Bible were ignorant assholes, but they are, at least, not responsible for the fact that the popular modern English versions contain translation mistakes.
Milleson - I like your comment.

WHEN USA will get rid of Christianity in their politic system, things will be better for ALL Americans.
ReplyDeleteFot now and for many years, thoughts and prayers, Good bless America, etc... never solved issues like racism, sexism, mass shootings, freedom for all etc....
Greed and wealthy oligarchs are leading 99% of you population using Christian Nationalism to run the country with fear.
Seeing the debate around Platner is so ridiculous as the MAGA GOP had put twice a worse man in the White House. Trump is nothing of a religious Christian man, but a felon, rapist, adultary man and pedophile etc... etc..
MAGA sees the straw in the eye of the dems but not the stump in their own eyes.
