Wouldn't it be nice if Congress could pass a constitutional law that did that? Or, maybe if they have employees on any gov. assistance their corporate tax rate rises 1% for each employee on the gov assistance rolls?
ReplyDeletePat - We'll never live to see that.
DeleteJust make the employers with employees on public assistance pay back every penny spent by the State and Federal Governments. After-all these employers should be looking after their own employees and providing benefits.

How about this for an idea: no capitalist in his right mind would say that his money-making activities should not be regulated to any extent. We have lawyers who do things like that. The whole question in law is, where to "draw the line" restricting liberty. Liberty is the foundation of our culture. But rules are necessary for culture to flourish. Any social system organized by man can be imperfect in ways that result in detriment to someone. Pure capitalism has not existed since the Gilded Age, and pure comminism never did. The line between the two still has to be drawn so as to reward initiative and special talent more highly than menial work. Of course everyone's basic needs should be fulfilled. That goes without speaking, doesn't it?
