I completely concur with the orientation in the first meme. ONLY thing is that companies, like consumers, "have choices". In about 1980, short term loan "bankers" wanted to increase the interest rates they could charge their customers, as in raise the legal limit of "usury", which was already over 20% at that time.
ReplyDeleteONE brave Democrat on the state finance committee stood back, gave them a fiery speech of how they came to the hearing in $1000.00 suits and such, saying they needed the additional interest rates to "stay in business". He put them down, big-time, to loud applause from the spectators. "Request denied".
A victory? Unfortunately not. Within a few months, that credit card company had moved all of their Texas operations to Idaho (or nearby). ALL of those processing operations and offices were now in a state that would allow their higher interest rates, eagerly. So the higher interest rates still happened for Texas customers. Companies "have choices" of where they put their offices, just as consumers "have choices" about they spend their money.
Has not been a long time when USA-identified corporations started to move their corp headquarters back to the USA for the "lower corporate tax" reasons. That can be reversed, unfortunately.
Anon@7:08am - Excellent points.
DeleteThe major banks have had one financial scandal after another, isn’t time to revoke their bank charters ?
ReplyDeleteThat threat and jailing bank executives would keep them in their place and end their financial frauds.

Rj - Yeah, they get away with way too much.
DeleteOh, I doubt that even the oil companies like this war. It's just Trump groveling for the approval of people who know what a deranged moron he is.
