ReplyDeleteMark Rutter hails from Maine, and was born in 1951; however, he is kind of a mystery as far as his early life goes. He showed up on the gay scene in the mid-1970's doing live shows in the porn theaters of New York and San Francisco. During a show in San Francisco, he was first seen and courted for film by Steve Scott, legendary Porn Director for TMX Video (a sister company of Mustang Films, before Falcon snapped up Mustang).
His first film was released by Top Max X Studios (known as "TMX") and was the 1979 classic, "Inches," where he used the alias "Buck Stevens" (not to be confused with the Catalina performer from the 2000's). He certainly had them (inches, that is) and starred along legends Al Parker and Steve Taylor (Parker's real life lover) in the film, only doing versatile oral with Al Parker and receiving a facial for his efforts. Despite being "gifted" downstairs, he mainly preferred to bottom in anal play, but it is said that he loved to aggressively dominate a man when it came to foreplay and oral sex; he was considered a "master of the arts" in those areas.
He lost the "Buck Stevens" alias when he was courted by Colt Studios; Al Parker recalled in an interview years later that it was a complete mistake on Colt's end by accidentally using Mark's real name instead of the "Buck Stevens" moniker and Mark was really unhappy about it as he had spent years building the Buck persona on stage. At Colt, he started out there in print (as seen above), but shifted quickly into their "250" vignette reels (called such because each scene took 250' of actual film) and video packs that Colt was famous for producing. Unlike a lot of porn stars that worked for Colt during that time, he eschewed the solo scenes that were popular with their models at the time (many Colt models were crossovers from mainstream modeling and wanted to - if discovered - maintain plausible deniability of their sexuality by performing solo scenes as to avoid the messy "gay" label).
Mark jumped straight into the full blown, pre-condom sex scenes in the vignettes; his first was a threesome with Clint Lockner (playing a cop), Mike Davis (playing an innocent, horny homeowner) and Mark Rutter playing the part of a fugitive; this famous 250 reel started the whole "break into a guys house while he's in bed, tie him up and play and then get caught by the cop who joins in" scenario.
Mark then went on to do four more Colt vignettes (while still modeling in print for them), each better than the last. He eventually left Colt and did one more known film for Marksman Productions in 1985 but faded into obscurity after that last film. Although his film career only lasted six years (he got a late start for porn stars of that era), what little he did made him a legend that still lives in in compilation reels from Colt. He can be seen in "Best of Colt Films", Volumes 2, 4, 6, 9 and 12, as well as Colt Studios "Vault Classics." His original film, "Inches" has been re-released by Bijou Classics.
Mark Rutter sadly passed away in 1999 from AIDS related causes.
