    There is a report of an Irishman who is married to a citizen of the USA, has a work permit, runs his own business and has no criminal record who ICE have detained in El Paso, Texas for 5 months in a cell with 70 men. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/feb/09/irish-man-seamus-culleton-ice-detention That report notes at the end that the Irish consulate was dealing with 65 cases last year compared to 15 in 2024. With that sort of thing going on there is no reason to go to the USA when other more civilised places are around. I never thought I would see the country descend like this.

    Our country has descended into Fascism. Jailing innocent people is not going to be restricted to non-citizens. The DOJ is reputedly making a list of those who oppose the government. Pretty soon, they'll be arresting anyone they think is "guilty."

      I hope for all of you in the USA you can get rid of this encroaching threat to democracy before all is lost. What happens there could well influence others around the world to do the same.

      We in Canada are witnessing all of this close and NEVER we will go on the path of fascism or autocracy like in USA. First our kind of government already has a king but without any real power and our democratic life is sane and protected in our Constitution.
      Our Supreme Court as any other courts in Canada are not controlled by any of our 5 parties and are obliged to be impartial without any party association to.
      USA is on a bad path and it's an «example» to other democracies what NOT to do.
