ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in St. Pete FL, my neighbor had a large lychee tree on her property. Never noticed it until they fruit began to ripen, then the parrots arrived. You would see the heads of the wild parrots, a flock, rising up out of the crown of the tree, then disappearing back down again to get to the fruit. And the noise was incredible! Quite the sight!
ReplyDeleteLiving in RI, we try growing lychee trees here (the seeds are quite prolific!). The third or so season for on plant it began to flower, and I put it out on a side landing in late Spring to get more direct sunlight. Amazingly, we had two loose Cockatiels come through the yard (neighborhood escapees). It was pretty funny - we had thought they were looking for any fruit.
Rade - There must be something special about the lychee fruit.
