Growing up in our house, a meal out at Mickey D's was a treat.
ReplyDeleteWe were middle class at best, it was indeed a treat, and us kids loved it. My father was a good man. Then when one came into our town and I could drive, we would all cheap in and I would go and get the treats. Boy whkattk you brought up some fond memories about Mickey D's!!
DeleteMy father was/is such a cheap-ass, we had to share fries, (like two orders of fries betwee six kids). I'm surprised we didm't have to share the burgers! Oh, wait. We did.
ReplyDeleteAbout 15 years ago cooperate built a retro McDonalds in Las Vegas like the one in the bottom pictures. It was located on the corner of Flamingo and Eastern. For some reason it didn’t last long, it was torn down and a modern cookie cuter McDonalds was rebuilt at the location. Looking at the bottom two pictures closely (and the building next to it) I wonder if this is a photo of the same ill fated McDonalds.
ReplyDeleteThat 15 cent hamburger would be $ 1.72 in today’s money. Back then when the family went to McDonalds in the 1950’s, everyone would get a hamburger and fries for 25 cents, a shake to go with the burger and fries would be had for special occasions. Back then that hamburger was 3 ounces, the fries 2 ounces and a coke 6 ounces. Compare that to the quarter pounders with all the fixings, the fries at 3.5 ounces and the coke at 12 ounces of today. Why wonder we have health issues.

We used to go to the McDonalds on Chapman Ave in Orange CA. The store looked just like this one pictured in the 1960’s and then was it updated in the 1970’s with a 70’s contempo style, and then again recently with their bland beige box style with the drive thru at the front seen everywhere. -Rj
