The Burning of the Books

On the evening of May 10, 1933, the Nazi German Student Association organized a large bonfire in the middle of Bebelplatz, a public square in the center of Berlin. Approximately 20,000 books were burned. The books that were burnt were thought to be treasonous and opposed to Nazism, including publications by Karl Marx, Heinrich Heine, and Sigmund Freud, among many others.
On the site where the books were burned is a glass sheet that covers an empty room with empty bookcases inside. The size of the bookshelves is very significant, as it fits the 20,000 books that were torched. The memorial also includes a plaque with an eerie quote from one of Heinrich Heine's plays that says, "Where they burn books, they will also burn people." The play was written in 1817, one hundred years before the book burning.
I have to wonder when I see a rating of "awful" on such a post, if the viewer thought the subject matter was awful or was it the post they found awful. There is that difference. If they found the burning of the books a horrible thing to do, then I agree. If they found the post objectionable because they believed this was an honorable thing to do, then that person is lacking the knowledge of the significance of this infamous historical act and is part of the problem that plagues our country at this time. To them I say, read a gawd damn book and stop watching FOX News. Stop following the lemmings over the cliff and assert your independence. Use you brain for something besides an incubator for RFK Jr's worms. We have a limited time to get this fixed and time is fast running out.

Hitler was not great, he was a deranged fuck, much like the current occupant of your White House. Follow him at your own peril, I never thought I would see the day when Americans would behave like us Germans before Ww2. And I get a charge out of those conservatives and neo-conservatives in Amerika who have gone on about how Hitler wasn’t that bad and how West Germany quickly recovered with its economic miracle.
We only had the economic miracle after the war because of the Marshall Plan and the contracts with the US and British military. Otherwise West Germany would never have recovered without those billions. And our industrial oligarchs who gave their full support to Hitler were left unscathed after the war and made more fortunes with those contracts. And that economic miracle left many behind in its wake, a fact overlooked. Today the first person people think of when it comes to Germany is not Bach, Beethoven, Dürer, Holbein, Hegel or Kant it’s Hitler. A madman, instead of men of sanity and brilliance. And the first thing people associate with Germany are death camps ! Isn’t that wunderbar.
Don’t let this happen to Amerika, or you will be stained by the blood of innocents that will not wash off just like Germany !

DeleteNowadays all someone has to do is type a few strokes into a keyboard and poof! gone! (Thankfully there are backups upon backups and the internet *is* forever, so getting rid of stuff isn't that easy, but the parallels are all too clear.

DeleteIt's similar to how books by Russian classics - Turgenev, Dostoevsky, Pushkin - are being destroyed and burned in Ukraine now. And if you say that this is not true, I have to disappoint you - it is true. And such videos exist, unless of course your Western propaganda deletes them.
