Josephine Baker


Freda Josephine Baker was an American-born French singer, dancer, actress, and activist. A Jazz Age icon known for her risqué performances, Baker became a World War II spy for the French Resistance. She used her celebrity to gain access to high-ranking Axis officials. Baker was a civil rights advocate who participated in demonstrations and boycotted segregated venues.
