#1: Just think how many people threw away the only life they would ever have for the sake of an illusion. Some did worse. The ultimate example of people who believed they would be rewarded in Heaven with something better than this life, was the 9/11 hijackers.

Decade by decade the number of true believers declines and the number of non-religious people increases -- in Europe, here, in Latin America, even in the Middle East. It's a slower process than we'd like, but it is happening and is probably irreversible.

While his press demon had no problem spelling it out in graphic terms, the news media would show the passage about wokeness and gender identity for a flash but NOT read it aloud. Cowards all. ReplyDeleteWell, for what it's worth, the >NEW< CBS Evening news reduced Karen-olyne Leavitt to bullet points and not soundbites. I was quite impressed! ABC, meanwhile, kept the camera on her and let her spew her toxic bullshit to prove they were "being newsy!".
DeleteThousands of years ago we were worshipping Zeus and Hera, Jupiter and Juno, Egyptian Gods too numerous to mention and thousands of other Gods in other countries. Is anyone worshipping or offering sacrifices to these Gods now? No. And maybe not in our lifetime, but all present day religions and the gods they worship will be relegated to the dustbins of history. It can't come soon enough!

Your resentment of God and religion would be more effectively addressed in psychotherapy. It is possible to respond to the counter-culture without stooping to their level of discourse. As for the counter-culture, if they didn’t exist half the people in our country would have few civil and legal rights if any, and we would still be fighting a senseless war in Viet-Nam. Stooping to their level of discourse ? You mean confronting and speaking out against hypocrisy and injustice when they see and hear it, instead of staying silent and praying it ends while people suffer needlessly.

ReplyDeletePlease. Someone needs to explain for you people that there is a difference between "god" as an intellectual construct, and 'tribalism', which is all organized religion amounts to. Please focus on the people who behave badly in the name of god, and allow the truth that many highly intelligent people believe in "god". I put the word in quotes, because it is a nebulous concept. One either believes or he does not, and it does no good to throw decent people into the same tub with those who commit atrocities, and throw us all out in the same bathwater. It surprises me that gay men would have difficulty understanding that lack of respect for a personal inclination is really just bullying and social abuse. This blog is an echo chamber, just like every place else on the internet. I just like looking at pictures. That's the only reason I'm here. This comment section is inane, so I'll avoid it in future. Thanks for taking me so seriously.

ReplyDeleteI have no doubt you already know that the comment section of a blog is a place where anybody can react and express their opinion about what was posted, should they feel the need to. Which is what you were welcome to do.
Calling it 'inane' now only shows that either you were too prompt to post your comment and didn't measure its content with regards to Rick's displayed ones, or are too full of yourself and used to draping your opinions in a pseudo educated language that would make you feel superior.
I want to believe it's not the latter and hope that you will keep on contributing in an assertive way, id est the ability to express oneself and defend one's rights without infringing on those of others - which of course is to be working both ways.
