It's going to be very, very, very ugly. The Europeans used to call us "ugly Americans" because tourists would go there and show arrogance and disrespect. With the outcome of this election, the country has earned the moniker.
ReplyDeleteWhkattk, I have been working for years with US tourists, elder, young, students, and I can say that never I thought they were ugly, arrogants. Never. Like me, most of the people in my country, Spain, has a deep respect for USA citizens. I can't talk about the other european countries.
DeleteAll the US citizens I had the opportunity to meet here in France or to work with never were 'ugly' in neither their behavior or their opinions. But again people react accordingly to the way you welcome them. And comments such as "your country is so small" are easily addressed by showing them places they would never see but here (a fine restaurant always is a good start :-)
DeleteBut truth be told, as much as I have considered moving abroad to the US a few years back as an option, it would now seem like moving to Germany if we were in 1936. Which raises the question about how many people from the US, in the coming years, will decide to move abroad. Time will tell, I guess.
What many millions of people who voted for this mentally unstable clown do not yet realize is that when the proverbial shit hits the fan, they are going to be splattered with the rest of us. Many programs on the chopping block benefit the red states directly with food assistance, etc. When those programs dry up, they will then feel the impact of what their vote has done. It's hard to say if their intellects will understand what they've unleased with their votes. I'm sure they'll be very happy with their decision.
ReplyDeleteWe, Canadians will be impacted by this new administration. Our governement in Ottawa and everyone in each provinces are preparing to face it.
ReplyDeleteWhat we are expecting is new higher tarrifs on our goods like aluminium, steel or lumber wood and milk etc... This will affect you as your army is using a large among of Canadian steel and your auto industries are also largely using our clean aluminium.
In Ontario there are many auto companies like GM of Ford and others. To build a car, this will need a 7 times back and forth the border. Will his tarifs be applied each time it crosses the border?
So the cost of your cars will be higher.
For lumber wood, with all the devastations caused by huricanes and wild fires you will need more Canadian wood to rebuild.
Our economies are so closely intertwinned that his economic policies will badly affect you and us.
We have even before this election going to visit all of the states near our border to negociate economic issues.
Another point we are preparing is his massive deportation policy which will make our border unsecure as many will try to come in Canada. We already have an immigration issue and this will be catastrophic for us as we will not be able to manage this huge wave of immigrants.
Not to forget that the great north is mostly Canadian and USA needs us to secure North America against a Russian invasion of that territory.
that may be true Milleson, but he has also promised to punish the blue states in several ways, like withholding FEMA funds after a disaster. Could it be that the funds available will be given to his red states and then be depleted and not available to those states that oppose him. Possible or probable?
ReplyDeleteIf he dares do it he is not aware that in many blue states there are many who voted for him. This election was so close that the margins were like 48% for him and 48% for Harris. But this subtility is out of range for his ego and brain...
DeleteYou don't deserve a dictature, you're an example of democracy from which have learned other countries like mine. These democracy is in risk now with this offender, sick of power who doesn't matter his country, his people, his neighbors, from Hawaii to Vermont. He only mind himself, only him.
ReplyDeleteHenri - Thank you my friend.
Delete"Uneducated, paranoid and selfish" will most probably resume his whole presidency in the History books to come. Yes I know, it unfortunately rings a 'Reich' bell.
ReplyDeleteThe world could be entering a new historical Dark Age. Before we attribute this to American ugliness, let's recognize that racism, mysogeny and general intolerance are on the rise everywhere--not just the U.S. There is a large portion of the U.S. population who feel as though they have been intentionally excluded from recent pushes favoring the rights and privileges of marginal groups. Democrats focus so heavily on Identity Politics--making certain groups feel obligated to vote for them--that (we) forget what's happening in the American where life is not so good. We hide from that America in our Blue Islands, and we disdain most ordinary people as being too crude and unsophisticated to understand social progress. People have watched their local communities be devastated by globalism and liberalism, and they are tired of being the baby that was thrown out with the bath water. The best answer to this is for people to forget about social media and start interacting face to face. It is the phones and the internet that are doing this to us. If you think it's bad now, wait until AI takes over everything. I was born in 1950, thus have lived most of my life before technology dehumanized all of us. If I die today, I can be satisfied that I have had a good life in a mostly civilized world. How many people born since 1990 can say that? Remember this: the limit of a tyrant's power is the extent to which his subjects are willing to be victimized. RESIST!
ReplyDeleteAnon@12:09pm - Excellent comment! Thank you.
