Friday...
The cystoscopy went well. There was a numbing agent injected first, then the camera. It was fascinating observing the interior of my bladder. The urologist pointed out what was most likely my major urinary problem: a big prostate. I joked with her that I'd rather have a different big thing. She chuckled. Anyway, she prescribed yet another medication to try to shrink the prostate. I'll try it for a few months but, honestly, I'm ready for "a procedure" to relieve this urgent half-ass pissing all of the time.

I am 68 and was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate 2 yrs ago and also very early stages of prostate cancer . I had the two treatments of radiations .( I had External beam radiation for 28 days and seeds implanted) The cancer is gone and the Dr prescribed Finasteride 5mg. The med took a bit to shrink the enlargement but as of today I am peeing much better than before. I hope this information helps in some way
Today you offer some insight into your procedure which prompted Dart to offer his comment. That's what comes with getting personal, baring and sharing the inconvenient things of life. You never know when that act may help someone with similar issues or questions. Good for you, Rick, procedure completed, hope you and the Doc can find the relief you seek.
If they recommend you need a procedure instead of meds, look into aquablation. I was where you are a few years ago. I tried the meds and hated them. They made me dizzy and the dry ejaculations are just not as satisfying as shooting cum.
I tried the aquablation procedure about two years ago. They resect some prostate tissue via water jet. Videos are available online. The recovery takes about six weeks, but after that I felt great. Peeing like I was thirty years old again, and no adverse sexual side effects at all. I get hard and cum like a much younger guy. I recommend the aquablation procedure over any of the other prostate procedures, because there are no sexual side effects while the BPH problem is completely solved. Good luck! .
BPH and related issues seems "to happen", in males, to varying degrees. I suspect it is due to estrogen overpowering testosterone levels, with age. Which also seems to fuel many of the "things" which happen to males as they age. Our bodies were designed to be active and sexually active. As T levels decline, other things begin to happen. In one article i read on this back in the 1990s, when T levels get to about 10% of their teen-peak levels, death happens, the Bill Phillips article claimed.
The medical community has studied ALL aspects and such of female estrogen levels, ignoring the similar male T levels, at the same time. As if they never considered such happened in males, but when you look, T level declines are there! Claiming that to augment T levels in males could lead to prostate cancer, so everybody apparently shied away from that.
There might also be some pelvic floor exercises (which can be aided or done completely by electric muscle stimulation (EMS). The collapse of that muscle area is reputed to result in the "reduced tank capacity" of females and their need to P a lot.

Glad the cystoscopy went well. I worked in urology for 6 years and we did these all the time. I am quite sure they did a residual as well. You pee and empty your bladder as best you can and then we straight cath and see what is left in the bladder. If I recall, anything over 100 cc is an indicator to move forward in treatment plans. Yes, we give medication that can help you fully empty your bladder. As you know, you can never fully empty your bladder. I am sure that if the medication does not give you relief other options will be discussed. There are all kinds of options these days to take care of that big prostate. Sorry, they can't add inches while they are down there. Really, you should know by now that size is not the be-all. It's how you use it. It's a pain, and maybe a concern, to not fully empty your bladder and you always feel you have to go. Let's not talk about being in your environment and you're constantly searching for a bathroom. Let's not talk about getting up at night. Nothing but the best as they sort things out.
