ADORED HER. There certainly isn't many great actresses like her around anymore. Such a sad day.

Thank you so much Rick, I knew you wouldn't miss passing. This woman has amazed and entertained me since the early 60s when first I saw her in the Burton/Taylor movie, The VIPs. Throughout her career, with roles as diverse as they come, she demonstrated that she could do it all from classical drama to comical farce. For me it's a bit like mourning the death of the Dowager Countess of Grantham again. And I did grieve! Given the best lines in the series, she literally owned the castle with her acerbic and witty remarks. She shines in a lesser-known favorite of mine, "Evil Under The Sun," with Peter Ustinov as Hercule Poirot, an over the top fun diversion costume who-done-it set in the Mediterranean on the island of Majorca.
Lastly, that damned charming British accent had me swooning from the first words out of her mouth. So very thankful to have many of her movies to watch again and enjoy through the years.

Maggie's character held its own against Angela Lansbury's in Death on the nile. I'm not the hooky-spooky sort, but I woke for no reason this morning at 6AM and Maggie Smith's name crossed my mind. I hope that future generations study her talents and abilities.
