  1. Okie-dokie... so, the artistic side of me finds this incredibly, mind-boggling beautiful - but the practical side of me says that it's a terrible waste of space and unnecessary. It's obvious in many of the pics that feature this place (both here and just online in general) indicate the shelves and books are mockups and the use of mirrors, theatrical quality lighting and clever shapes give the illusion of a much larger space than actually exists - much like Disney mastered so long ago. It makes me wonder just what the size of inventory of books this place has actually is.

Besides - to me, if I go to a bookshop (one of my favorite haunts since I was 10 years old about 45 years ago) is that the books I peruse and select are my escape routes - it's the journeys and stories inside those soft and hard covers (and digitally, for today) that intrigue and I can lose myself - not the bookshop itself (it could be a box on the sidewalk, an empty storefront for a "temp" location or any other setting that I find the book that entrances me). This to me is like turning a sow's ear into a silk purse.

IMHO artistically beautiful? Yes. Necessary? No.

  3. @RBrysco at 6:18 AM - I enjoyed your perspective and the way you write. I hope you visit again and share your insights.

As for me, a non-reader for pleasure, I see all the images of all the books with all the words, and I am left speechless by the architecture. Very distracting.
