I wonder if people are going to wake up to the reality of asshats like Abbott. November will reveal what kind of society we have in the country.
ReplyDeleteLove the first quote/statement.
ReplyDeleteHuman decency is human decency.
I worry about folks working two or more jobs just to be somewhat comfortable.
I remember when I moved out on my own in 1978 and had one job as a CNA. I had a middle-of-the-road apartment and lived comfortably. I even bought a car. Couldn't do that today.
What breaks my heart, even more, is when I see young people in their 20's-on the side of the road asking for a handout. I think, how in the hell will they be able to dig themselves out of the hole they are in. In the USA our safety net is crap. I have lived in Germany for several years and I tell you this, I would rather be poor in Germany than in the USA. I had a friend who was unemployed and the assistance was almost like having a sugar daddy. Nothing fancy but one can still have dignity. The Germans invested in their citizens.

I pray that the pendulum will swing back to building up the middle class and helping those in need. This 10% crap is getting on my last gay nerve.
Pat - I hope people wake up SOON because there are way too many asshats in positions of power already.
ReplyDeleteVictor - I'm hoping for that pendulum swing as well.
ReplyDeleteOh, SNAP AOC!
ReplyDeleteAlthough there are LOTS of people moving from CA to TX, I'm not so sure all of them are disgruntled Republicans, tired of the "high taxes" in CA sompared to TX, allegedly. Abbott and similar have repeatedly made comments about "We're not going to be California", too. As newcomers from CA can tend to be looked down upon by some current TX residents.
ReplyDeleteAbbott and the electrical power grid? He re-hand-picked new administrators for its managing entity. A new bunch of people who still are not what is needed. Of course, any upgrades are at "the customers expense". I wonder when the increase in home insurance premiums will finally happen and THEN people really realize WHY it happened as it did?
The border and drugs? It has been common practice for the drug operatives to tunnel UNDER the Rio Grande River and such for decades, Very nice tunnels, too! With electric lights and ventilation. From a house on the south side of the border to a house/building on the north side of the border. How they can do that can be interesting to discover! Which makes Trump's "Big Beautiful Wall" a total waste of time and money! Not to forget that a lot of it comes on "on top of the ground" or "by air", too. Obviously, what Abbott and other Republicans are trying to do is NOT working!
I suspect that what might really be interesting is that TX will become a white-minority state in about 10 years or so. Mexicans are now 42% of the total population, with Blacks at about 13%? I think that Dallas County is already there, due to "White Flight" to the suburbs many years ago.
US Immigration laws/policies have been needing reformulating for decades an ddecades, but nobody really wants to fix them, or even modernize them.
AOC had a very efficient response to Abbott and his "Migrant Expeditions". At least in the short term, those people will get to a place that will better-accept them as future valuable US citizens.
The "human decency" comments are good, but they might also apply to the unborn. Republicans have been very good at educating the masses as to when life begins, not "life as WE experienced it", but "life". So, when does the unborn become "a human being"? When the egg is fertilized? When the unborn exits the womb and takes the first breath? "Human Decency" (as presented) might mean the host/mother carries the unborn full-term, no matter what.
ReplyDeleteAs for the comments presented . . . YES we do need to treat each other with a certain/basic level of decency, even if they might not deserve it, but also until they might prove they are not worthy of such treatment. We SHOULD be helpint others have a better life on this Earth, as it can benefit us all for that to happen. BUT there is, to me, "a limit" if the other human(s) do not respond to the assistance/help we provide them . . . from my experiences and observations.
Anon@5:45pm - Thank you for your excellent comment! My hope is that there's enough of those new residents from CA to vote him out.
ReplyDeleteAnon@5:55pm - That meme did not mention the unborn, so I don't know why you brought that up. It mentions being decent to others, regardless of all circumstances. That's the focus.
ReplyDeleteThank you AOC! Abbott is not only a terrible Governor... he's also a horrible human being.
