Lake Mead
Lowest Lake Mead has been since 1937
The water level at Lake Mead is the lowest it's been since being filled in 1937 after the construction of the Hoover Dam. As the water levels decline, more and more "surprises" have been found."The worst drought in recorded history"
In April 2022, water levels at Lake Mead were so low that a water valve that had not been visible since 1971 was exposed. The Southern Nevada Water Authority released a statement regarding the water levels at Lake Mead: "The Colorado River Basin is experiencing the worst drought in recorded
history."
Dead Pool
As of July 13, 2022, Lake Mead is at 1,041 feet above sea level. If the lake were to fall below 895 feet
it would no longer be able to produce electricity at the Hoover Dam, rendering the lake at dead
pool level. This means reservoir water levels are too low to reach the lowest water outlet at Hoover
Dam and flow downstream.July 6, 2000

Very sad. That "modern civil engineering wonder" plaque risks evoking the "look upon my works, ye mighty, and despair" inscription.
ReplyDeleteFrightening !
ReplyDeleteWe are bombarded with pleas to conserve. Grass was banned. Once may have no more than 50% of landscape as grass. And now, though a pool uses less water than grass, as of Sept 1, new pools over 600sf (surface area) are banned. It makes sense to me and we do all we can. Sadly, the same cannot be said for some of our most wealthy residents. They flat out say they will use all they want on their greenscaped lawns because they "can afford it."
ReplyDeleteInfidel - Quite true.
ReplyDeleteAnon@7:12am - Absolutely.
Pat - Damn the selfish rich!
Rad - Damn the willfully stupid!
Who can deny climate change when such photographic evidence is available to all who deny it?
ReplyDeleteAnon@2:50pm - Anyone with eyes that choose not to see the glaringly obvious.
ReplyDeleteVery sad. This kind of evidence kills me. Rather powerless.
