Love a good diner.
ReplyDeleteDenver had a Metro Diner several years back and then it changed to something else and then closed.
Virginia has/had a City Diner.
I love local restaurants. Never been a fan of chains.
What worries me most is the food fresh. Meaning not from Sysco.
I heard somewhere that with today's technologies many high-end restaurants serve great food but for consistency, quality, and flavor it is just like food in a bag that you boil. Daisy Seal A Meal anyone. I am sure the concept is the same but with advanced technologie.
Love diners. St. Paul has a cute one downtown... and old railroad car.
ReplyDeleteVRCooper - I like diners, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy we have a couple of 50s-style diners around here. Love them!
ReplyDeleteabout '50s
ReplyDeleteThe loss of diners is an American tragedy. We once had half a dozen of them in center city Philadelphia; today, there's just one left.
ReplyDeleteBeyond loving the no-nonsense, comfort-food cuisine, I appreciate the enforced democracy of a diner. Over the decades, I've shared neighboring counter seats with everyone from former DA/Mayor/Governor Ed Rendell to obvious gangbangers with weapons in their waistbands.
Anon@2:43pm - They were very civilized and their food wasn't foo-foo.
