The fourth picture is from Petra, capital of the pre-Islamic Arab kingdom of Nabataea, in what's now Jordan. I've been there.
ReplyDeleteWow a steam loco thanks Rick awesome!
ReplyDeleteInfidel753 - Ah, that's the name! Very neat that you've been there.
ReplyDeletebobbert - You are welcome.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark - scene filmed there I believe?
ReplyDeleteWonderful piece of historical importance Petra.
bobbert - And very beautiful.
ReplyDeletePetra is a very unusual city. All of it basically looks like that photo. It's a city of chasms in rock, and the buildings aren't really "built" but carved into the cliff faces. Petra dates from the late Hellenistic or early Roman period, which is why the structures look Greco-Roman, but the inscriptions there show that the people were Arabic-speakers.
ReplyDeleteThat staircase is pretty. What is the story with the train. Is that made up? Does that exist?
ReplyDeleteInfidel753 - I was not aware that there was more than that one structure to the place.
ReplyDeleteuptonking - I don't know, but Google might.
