The racism here in Canada isn't as bad as in USA but there are still people that are having some racist thoughts and action.
For sure those aren't the best of our citizens but in some ways, racism against black people and here also against natives is still seen sometimes.

I asked that Cameroun man I met last November if he experienced some kind of racism here in Montreal. His answer was quite revealing.
He said first that racism is so inbeded in our society that it's a long term issue to get rid of. Then he told me that the kind of racism he witnessed sometimes is seeing a lady changing sides of the street sidewalks when she saw him coming toward her.

The fear of the other being different looking and living than ours is a barrier hard to go accross for some.
I think that ignorance is one of the most hard obstacle to tear down.

Dear Jane: ignorance prevails.

whkattk - She certainly is.

JiEL - That must have been very hurtful for that Cameroon man. Racism is learned; that needs to change.

GF - Unfortunately, that is all too true.

Racism here in France is quite recent, mostly due to some some far right's raising over the past decades which, I think, is a perverse effect of president Mitterrand "reign" over the 80s.
Anyway, the history of colonialism differs depending on the country and as far as I can tell black people here are considered as friendly as it comes, just as they've always been - which reminds us of Eugene Bullard, "the Black Swallow" (see post# 2021.0206.0002...).
As for the Arabians, feelings are unfortunately more mixed, along with the mistrust that comes with, obviously due to terrorist actions over the (at least) 20 past years. But in the every day life here I have the feeling that, after the post-war settlement of North-African workers, their (grand) children are kind of an easy modern picture of society's scum. And they are more often than one would like. An so what? Was it better "before"? When the scum guys were all whiteys? Of course not.
Sometimes it feels like racist-washing, for in my line of work I have had the opportunity to work with as many scoundrels as fine people, no matter their roots or skin colors.

*Now could you get back to your initial point, Laurent?*
*But of course*

If as Jane Elliot said "Nobody is standing here" then indeed the country has an issue as large as the coloured population at stakes.
Whatever the place, the time has come to think and see about the world beyond skin colors.

*that one was very John Lennon my Dear*
*as long as I am no Yoko...*

BatRedneck - I enjoy your observations and your humor. You also have a good memory. Society has a long way to go to wipe out racism.

I know a black man from Colombia,he was delivering mail on his route and some jerks yelled out the "N" word at him and another person told him to stay off of their property while he was delivering the mail!🤔

Luv chocolate - That is thoroughly disgusting of them to do!

That is brilliant.

And the moment the people of Georgia get their act together, the white folk band together and pass all sorts of voting restrictions. We will overcome? But why do we have to work so damn hard for what others take for granted?

uptonking - Because some people aren't happy unless they can make someone else unhappy.
