Oh SNAP!
We have legalised «gay marriage» which we more call «gay union» as we have put religion out of it. So for decades, gays can legalise their «union» as lovers to have the same advantages of straight married couples.
This is to protect each of the lovers in regard of legal and economic advantages.
Some priests wouldn't mind celebrating gay «mariages» but they are here acting for the government to register the union of two gay lovers in the civil register. Here since many decades for straight marriages, priest are acting like a judge of marriage official to register it for the civil registery.
The opposition of «gay marriage» in USA is coming from mixing the civil union and the religious celebration.
Again, religion is stopping you to get any rights as any American citizens would have.
