ReplyDeleteWhen job migration started, it was originally for "cheaper labor costs", as we all knew that USA labor was the best (typically). Then it was due to increasing governmental environmental regulations. Spoil somebody else's environment rather than our environment. That got us into Mexico and basic oriental areas (i.e., Taiwan).
ReplyDeleteChina saw this happening and got their company ready "to play" that game. ONLY thing was that a USA company had to partner with a Chinese company to operate in China. FULL Partner, not in name only. Which is when "intellectual property" came into play, for the USA companies. As the USA fashion industry was already in low-wage countries with sweat-shops and such.
The financial operatives passed-off the 15% strake in CitiBank that an Arab country took to "bail them out CitiBank in the eaerlie 1980s was initially very concerning. The financial operatives claimed it was not a majority stake, so "no big deal" . . . until you consider the other "minority stakes" in CitiBank and similar.
Financial "types" will "sell their soul to the Devil" to comply with their fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders/investors. THIS gives them an "easy out". All the while putting jobs in low-wage, low-regulation countries with emerging economies that have yet to meet the same need for regulations that we experienced in the USA in the 1950s and later.
China has been "smart", though. As the COUNTRY manages its growth and expansion. As needed, so the company stays abreast of environmental concerns (eventually) as they put their people to work. WORKING people build a good economy! Money in circulation builds a great economy! In the USA, the amount taxes are lowered on middle class+ people is pretty insignificant, on a per-person level, but significant in the grand scheme of things. Lower taxes mean the government has less "incoming funds" to operate with". As government spending and wages are at earlier levels AND increasing. Republicans will scream "financial accountability, as THEY do little to rein-in THEIR spending.
Their latest "ruse" is "Public-Private Partnerships" as ways to help the poor (shelter, housing, job training) as "rich people" (who contribute their tax-exempt funds) quietly make more money in the process. Those who receive these benefits certainly like them, obviously, as the need has become far greater than anybody might suspect.
Republicans have been "projecting" for decades. Looking for that "second set of books" at Planned Parenthood as that is how THEY would run the company. One set of financial books to comply, another set to reflect what was really happening. Illegal no matter what, but that is why that "second set" became illegal . . . as it was not what they were federally and state taxed upon. "Tax Evasion", plain and simple.
The USA Tax Code needs to have better tiers of taxation! Lower taxes where they really impact citizens' lives. With increasing levels at tiers, starting with those who net $500k year profits, increasing progressively as the yearly profits increase. IF a company did not desire to pay taxes, their "expenses" can include higher wages for their workers and re-investing in their businesses (including complying with federal emissions regulations). AT THE SAME TIME, the government would be investing their tax monies in better, free public education, higher social security payments and other healthcare measures . . . IN OTHER WORDS, investing in OUR nation and its defenses. As immigrants would continue to want to be here to help make things better for all.
Conservatives always want to CUT things, as PROGRESSIVES want to BUILD things so MORE PEOPLE can benefit and have a better life. NOW we just need to expand and complete that task in the coming MId-Term elections! Thwarting any efforts to keep the current operatives in power!!!
