Morning Glory Pool, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
Husband and I did a road trip from RI to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone a bunch of years ago. Yellowstone was... interesting. Some of it quite splendidly beautiful (idiot tourists in BIG RV's), but husband was driving the lap through the park... and I just gazed out the passenger window.... and I saw plumes of steam... rising from cracks in the shoulder of the asphalt roadway... lots... and lots of steam... steam rising from the loose gravel beyond that... and it dawned on me... WE WERE DRIVING ACROSS AN ACTIVE VOLCANO!!!! (well, caldera) We both looked at each other and screamed "LET'S GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!!!!" We more or less gunned it until we could see the "Thank you for visiting Yellowstone National Park" in the rear view mirror. Will probably not venture back there again.
