Always love the Chargers. Side note, it seems naked without the stars.
ReplyDeleteSean - It seems that way to me, too.
DeleteI had one while in the military. Damn thing turned out to be a lemon.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw a new '68 Charger when they came out, I was awe-struck. Metallic Blue with a white vinyl top. Amazing car! Turned heads everywhere it went in our smaller town. Good looking blonde drove it. Her father was the Dodge Dealer, I believe.
ReplyDeleteI drove a Charger of that era for a couple of weeks in late 1971 or early 1972, to keep its battery charged and engine smooth while its owner (a guy in my Army unit) was away. It was still being broken in after purchase, so he didn't want it to just sit. I managed to get it on a long drive only once, a round trip of maybe 500 miles over a weekend -- its powerful engine was quite a challenge to keep within speed limits, but it handled well. It was the only muscle car I ever got to put thru its paces, since such beasts were far beyond my limited budget ever to own.
ReplyDeleteMopars of all stripes, from Valiants to Chargers to Imperials, were great road handling cars with their front torsion bar and rear elliptical leaf spring suspensions. Cousin owned a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda when he was in the Marines, he would race it against a Navy friend’s AMC Javelin AMX.
