ReplyDeleteThere is hope, Ricky. So many outlets are now really starting to focus on the rapid, cognitive and physical decline of SCROTUS. His end is coming soon. I do suspect that once whatever this grip is he has on the GOP will die with him, and we can start moving back to civility... and humanity.
I really and truly hope that you are right, Rade. However, my great fear is that this is just the beginning.
DeleteTrump didn't start this mess - he just gave it a public voice and exemplified to those like him that "it's blatantly okay to be out in the light" with hateful, phobic beliefs and disregard for their fellow man. According to Trump, it's okay to let those long simmering thoughts and beliefs of being hateful and scornful with an "us versus them" attitude to come out publicly now. Considering all of the scandals of conservative groups like the Young Republicans, all the "hot mic" incidents, online posts and the legislative pushes to codify straight-out hate with no concern for the rule of law or regard of impact or consequence, I think that it is going to take a very long time for us to dig ourselves out of this mess even after Trump is dead and buried.
Trump may be the crusty old Cheetos colored fart of the day, but there are thousands - probably tens of thousands - that are more than happy to take his place and carry his mantle to levels we haven't seen yet. Complicating the situation is the way that the conservatives have quietly stacked the deck with their insertion of a majority of their like-thinking members in the court system and government positions at all levels specifically weakening the very guardrails that the Constitution and Congress had previously put in place. Even worse is their insertion into all levels of the governance and requirements architecture of educational boards (like Moms of Liberty) that will influence and twist future generations into their way of thinking. On a side note, I find it ironic that we - as gay men - have always been painted as "grooming" children, yet it is the conservatives and religious nutbags that have perfected that stereotype.
No, I don't realistically think that getting rid of Trump will be the end to this mess.
That being said, I do believe that eventually logic and justice will prevail; at least, I HAVE to believe that! Regardless of the situation being seemingly close to hopeless at this point, I think that this country's only chance is down to those that are fighting the good fight don't tire or lose the strength to keep going. Like a naval ship that has an extreme roll to one side, it will take (possibly) extreme actions or a great amount of time to correct, but it can be done. This "experiment in democracy" is too valuable and precious to lose over a bunch of racist, prejudiced, uneducated MAGA brats.
Agreed, the reversal, however, will not come instantly, but hopefully the hemorrhaging of our democracy will subside and we can figure a path forward.

They must not get away with their destruction, as they are the tramplers of the Constitution and the seditionist traitors of the USA. They will find that they have wrought their own self destruction.
