So sad, but not unheard of back then. Lots of child actors and "oddities" were treated as cash cows for their "owners". Reprehensible.

ReplyDeleteIn their last years they worked as cashiers and were treated well by their employer as he paid them each a salary after they had offered to work for a single salary. They rented a small house and were known to be generous to others.
In the 1930’s Violet was married to James Moore for a short time and had a child that was given up for adoption.
One wonders if the child ever knew of its famous parent.
When Daisey died sepsis set in and killed Violet. Imagine being Violet and realizing with Daisey dying you also would die.
All this from the flu! Violet never called for help, she apparently couldn’t go on living without Daisey, inseparable til the end. -Rj
