There is no literature or poetry in this White House.
No music.
No Kennedy Center award celebrations.
There are no pets in this White House.
No loyal man’s best friend. No Socks the family cat.
No kids’ science fairs.
No times when this president takes off his blue suit-red tie uniform and becomes human, except when he puts on his white shirt-khaki pants uniform and hides from Americans to play golf.
There are no images of the first family enjoying themselves together in a moment of relaxation.
No Obamas on the beach in Hawaii moments, or Bushes fishing in Kennebunkport, no Reagans on horseback, no Kennedys playing touch football on the Cape.
I was thinking the other day of the summer when George H couldn’t catch a fish and all the grandkids made signs and counted the fish-less days.
And somehow, even if you didn’t even like GHB, you got caught up in the joy of a family that loved each other and had fun.
Where did that country go?
Where did all of the fun and joy and expressions of love and happiness go?
We used to be a country that did the ice bucket challenge and raised millions for charity.
We used to have a president that calmed and soothed the nation instead dividing it.
And a First Lady that planted a garden instead of ripping one out.
We are rudderless and joyless.
We have lost the cultural aspects of society that make America great.
We have lost our mojo, our fun, our happiness.
The cheering on of others. Gone.
The shared experiences of humanity that makes it all worth it. Gone.
The challenges AND the triumphs that we shared and celebrated.
The unique can-do spirit Americans have always been known for. Gone.
We have lost so much in so short a time.
~Elayne Griffin Baker
I just felt that way even in Trump 1.0 back in his first presidency.
ReplyDeleteThe only fact that he never has a dog in the white house, not even in Mar A Largo showed that he wasn't a normal human being.
Melania is there on his side as a china pot, a trophee to put a bit of artificial beauty to him.
Even Biron never smiled or acted like a normal teenager.
This presidency is sanitized and seems to have no human qualities as most of American families.
No real loving soul just business cold hearted or more, no heart at all...
Poor USA..
agreed, Jiel…..it’s all horrible.
DeleteRight. Even coming from someone who can't stand dogs...it's weird.
DeleteAnd now they are even dividing the country over a
ReplyDeleteSuper Bowl Halftime show. Gonna do a separate one on another network. The worst day in this country's history was the day that orange pos rode down his gaudy escalator.
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading that commentary, I realized that it is damned accurate! That the alleged "Party of Family Values" voted for somebody who only cares about adding members to the family (anti-abortion) but cares nothing about family enrichment and quality of family life should be a FELONY in itself.
ReplyDeleteThose pictures of the Kennedys and Bush family were NOT designed to be "photo ops", but images of American Life that the old "LIFE" and "LOOK" magazines sought to portray in pictures. Images of JOY and FUN and PETS in their daily lives . . . just like other families had when they were having a yearly family reunion or vacation. Hate to see those times go! Now, we are being told "gloom and doom", plus flaky golf games are all we seem to have any more! Oh, can't forget other attributes of the current group in the WH . . . graft and grift!
Sad but true. We're going to hell in a handbasket, as my mama used to say.
ReplyDeleteYou better stop lamenting and fight back full force !
ReplyDeleteAmerica is becoming the very shit hole Trump accuses other countries of being as you sit on your hands and do nothing.
We Brits were like trapped rats in 1940, and like rats we tenaciously fought back, I suggest you Americans do the same. 🇬🇧
Have you forgotten that Britain went through 1000 years of brutality and civil war before it reached the point where you now consider it "civilized"? Britain in 1940 was being attacked by a foreigh enemy. Trump is right about one thing; what we are dealing with now is a domestic enemy. As a nation, we will survive this and move on to better days. Our civil wars have not consumed near as much of our history as those in the UK did.
DeleteHammerhead, I'm not so sure the US is strong enough to survive as is or was. We have so many more weapons. When your own government calls you scum and the enemy, the only thing to do is to fight underground. There are signs around here that say, "Fight like a Ukrainian".
DeleteSee, for many years now I have known and known of Americans preparing for the government to take them over. Thing is, it's them! They are doing the taking over!
LeftField - Unfortunately, good point.
DeleteI am convinced the POS won't live until the end of the year. Apparently he had a mild stroke in early September.
ReplyDeleteEven though I do not believe in a god, I'll thank it whenever that happens!
DeleteHe doesn't hide to play golf, he cheats, even when cameras are around to document it.
ReplyDeleteI really think so.
ReplyDeleteWill the "Great America" that countries other than America have thought of until now never return? It's unfortunate, lonely, and sad.
