2025.0504.0004...

You should see my other hand...

Seriously though, my other hand is fine. Our cat, Dexter, is 20 years old and has developed a new habit of pooping only in his room, ON his bed (an old full-size bed), not in either of his two litter boxes. While that's not ideal, I'm grateful that that's where he does it, instead of random places in the house. Sometimes I notice that his butt needs a wipe, and he does NOT like that. Therefore, the injuries to my hand, which, I noticed, looks like a face. A face that lost...

  1. I suggest that you get some medical attention before an infection sets in, it doesn’t look good. In the meanwhile if you have Antibiotic ointment or cream apply it but don’t bandage it up. Best wishes

    1. Joe - I washed the area, then applied antibiotic ointment, but covered it for the first day. The second day (when I took this image) I took the bandages off and left it that way.

    1. Anon@4:55am - He still uses his litter box to pee in. So, not just yet.

  3. Ricky, We need to make that hand happy again. If you continue your relationship with Dexter, there are many gloves on the market that are made for handling animals, scratch-proof and bite-proof. Follow Joe's suggestion, they may look superficial, but why take a chance? Good Luck, friend.

    1. Milleson - I have some heavy-duty leather gloves but this happened before I had a chance to get them. I have learned a lesson.

  5. Part of getting on in years is that our skin is just not as durable as it used to be. I can brush a key in a door knob and receive a laceration! Most definitely Open Air. I assume you encouraged it to bleed freely at first. Keep an eye out for any changes and take care!!

  8. Animal behaviorists would say he's trying to tell you something is wrong. Our Mama cat kept doing something similar -- took her to the vet for a check-up....nothing wrong. She was just being a pissant.
