Read Chris Hedges incredibly prescient 2007 book, American Fascists. The last chapter describes in precise detail what's going on right now. The "religious right" calls itself Christian, sold its god and its soul for a promise of violent totalitarian rule, and is doing its best to re-create the US as a hell on earth (while it lasts...). Resistance (unlike the liberal response to Hitler in the 30's) is the only way forward that I can see.

DeleteThe mask of the religious right came off long ago with the likes of Billy Graham, Jerry Falwell, Susan and Tony Alamo, Paul and Jan Crouch and numerous others, from staged healings, phoney crusades and revivals to prosperity gospel. Now their racist and misogynist masks have fallen off and they reveal they never were Christian. Overseas you have a Russian Orthodox patriarchy that works hand in glove with Putin, oppressing the Russian people. In the Vatican, Pope Francis is constantly berated and defamed by so called Catholic conservatives. In Africa Protestant religious leaders encourage the abuse and even murder of gays.

DeleteSocial Security has always been in their gun sight. They will either “reform” it just before the midterm elections, so that the severe consequences of their “reforms” are not first apparent to voters. Or they will have Trump use executive orders to destroy Social Security just before he leaves office (if he ever leaves).
The midterm elections are coming soon, we have to hope Democrats pull through and win one or both houses. And also that we don’t end up with turncoat Democrats like Manchin and Sinema to derail everything and destroy the country.
