  1. #1- The penultimate glass high rise, the Seagram Building of NYC designed by Mies van der Rohe and Phillip Johnson in 1958, a literal curtain of glass. Also home to the famed Four Seasons Restaurant, where my grandfather had lunch with his brother. As they had lunch everyone’s attention was drawn to the entrance when UN chief Dag Hammerskjold arrived escorting the elusive Greta Garbo to lunch. The dining room full of conversation went silent when she strided past tables, my grandfather said you could hear a pin drop. Hammerskjold and Garbo were taken to a private dining room by the maître d’, and Garbo made a small wave of her hand to everyone before going inside.
For my grandfather a most memorable luncheon. :)

One time location of the famed Four Seasons restaurant. In 1960 my grandfather and his brother had lunch at the Four Seasons, everyone’s attention was at once drawn to the entrance when UN chief Dag Hammerskjold arrived escorting the elusive and reclusive Greta Garbo. They were then taken to a private dining room by the maître d’, as they walked past tables, my grandfather said you could hear a pin drop in a dining room once abuzz with conversations. Before going into the private dining room, Garbo turned and made a small wave of her hand to everyone as they in turn applauded. For grandfather and his brother a most memorable luncheon experience.
