Fire isn't the only thing to worry about. February 2024, Dana Point, CA...
This is one area where I won't be happy about their loss; but you build on a cliff that has been shifting, geologically, for eons, that's the risk you take.
We have this problem up and down the California coast with these cliff side homes. They need to create and enforce laws to end this shit of building homes in known shifting ground and slide areas. Remember this causes home insurance to go up for everyone to mitigate the costs, we literally pay for careless developers and the wealthy, and their irresponsible crap. -Rj
People that build on cliffs, mountains, beaches at sea level, in flood plains, deeply forested areas, the tornado zone, need to expect floods, fires, high winds, hurricanes and tsunamis. They're like the people who voted for Trumplethinskin...kinda stoooooopid. And yes, Rj, that's the shits about home and auto insurance. we all pay for others' ignorance and carelessness. My 2006 Vibe literally sits in my garage and takes a 5-10 mile shopping trip once a week. Insurance was $977.00 until I said no more and took everything down to the minimum required by law. The premium is now $458.00. I think location of the home should disqualify any homeowner from coverage. It should be their responsibility to cover all replacement costs and liability issues.
Yes, but you know who would scream the loudest? You guessed it, the Libertarians, and the conservatives who will always finds a way to get money from the government. Free insurance from the government? Plant your fields in flood plains and bad soils; then when it fails, guess who pays up? We can't get earthquake insurance up here, for a reason. too risky. Suppose I'll count on the government to offer low interest loans when it happens...
Building that close to a cliff's edge was asking for trouble.
ReplyDeleteInfidel - Definitely.
DeleteThese mansions are not they in danger!!?. I'd never live there!.
ReplyDeleteI repeat: these mansion....I'd never live there! Sorry I forgot to add my name at the other comment.
ReplyDeleteHenri - I don't think I'd live there either.
DeleteBuild on a cliff above the beach. Next thing you know you are living right by the ocean on the beach.

ReplyDeleteOnce the expected rains this weekend help put out the fires, the mudslides will begin....

ReplyDeleteTerrifying. That said... like they didn't know about land erosion? And I agree with Milleson 100%.
ReplyDeleteIn northern california local governments have a geologist on staff. Here in southern california they don't exist or get bribed. They absolutely know.
