The Futura was the dream car of Bill Schmidt and John Najjar of Ford styling and built by Ghia of Italy.
ReplyDeleteSome of the design elements of the Futura ended up on the 1956 and 1957 Lincolns: the hubcap design, the browed headlamps, the angular canted tail fins and the lowered fender wells. Its uniquely styled backbone perimeter frame was used on the Lincoln Continental Mark II. The Futura used the first pearlescent paint that shimmered from the use of actual fish scales.
In 1965 George Barris modified the Futura into the famous Batmobile of TV; how many of us kids back then had the Batmobile toy car from Corgi ! :)

I would have preferred it was kept as the Futura to be viewed in a museum.
ReplyDeleteI so wanted to be beside Batman in that Batmobile!!!
