I'm like "Club de Merde?".
ReplyDeleteThat Shark Fin makes the Mer name work!
ReplyDeleteAnother star of General Motors Motorama car show in 1956.
ReplyDeleteMy dad and his six brothers used to go to the Motorama shows held in San Francisco 1953, 1954, 1955 and 1956.
The Club de Mer used a modified hi-lift cam 287 Pontiac V8 of 300 hp (achieved with two 4- barrel carbs), a rear mounted transaxle (later used on the 1961-63 Pontiac Tempest) and had a 103 inch wheelbase.
Like other GM showcars the Club de Mer was destroyed (legal liability issues) after a few years, much to the sadness of the designers who viewed the car as a work of art.

If you look at this car and listen carefully, you can hear the theme from "Jaws," That fin is a ridiculous add-on feature. Looks like a Corvette that went to sea.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen this car.... how fascinating. Talk about the power of design.
