  1. If we ever become extinct and centuries later aliens are trying to figure us out from the ruins of our civilization, I wonder what they'll make of things like ferris wheels. A machine that you sit in and it moves you around and around in a big circle, going nowhere, would seem bafflingly pointless.

    1. Can't agree with you there. It's a remarkable work of engineering, and it provides a particularly exhilarating experience for many people. My favorite is the one in Paris. Such great and moving city views and surprising vistas.

    2. My point is, it wouldn't be apparent to non-humans that it was an exhilarating experience, which would make the effort of building it seem mysterious.

  2. That particular photo comes from Chernobyl. The future might put together the pieces of how we destroyed ourselves and had to abandon our beautiful places.
