Yup... well, the election is over. We can only accept the outcome. I thank the maker that we live in a DARK BLUE state that has already enshrined LGBTQ+ and abortion rights in the State constitution. That along with a strong state insurance exchange, I think we're going to be safe for a while longer.
I suggest to just... relish the waning weeks of 2024. Enjoy the holidays. Stay off social media. Avoid fixating on news outlets and pundits. Try and decompress after this hideously toxic election cycle. Start 2025 by getting involved in your communities. I intend to seek out local grass-roots organizations and find a way to help. As Chasten Buttigieg said; "...lace up the boots, roll up the shirt sleeves and get back to work.". That is exactly what I intend to do. Trump may have won, but our democracy is not over.
In Texas, things will remain the same. Republicans have been seeking to prove one is more conservative than others, to get elected. With apparently massive contributions by a couple of $B guys to influence things, which according to media reports they ARE and have been for a while.
I became aware of a left-leaning group founded by Norman Lear, "For The American Way", a few days ago. Also has a newsletter which monitors right-wing activities. Looking at that, the "Trump is sent by God" people are already falling over themselves praising T's election. Seeking to exert more influence over our USA lives in the process.
I suspect the election results were sewn in the 1980s, when guys grew up with an "absentee" dad and without a strong male figure in their lives. Enter T and his "I am the only one who can fix it" comments. Said in a reassuring tone of a favorite grandparent. As if he can wave a magic wand and things are made better again. Not unlike a 1960s parent who could kiss an injury and make it better.
Figure in an apparently large dose of "Little Man Syndrome" with a few side issues and we get what we got from the electorate.
Some blamed an apparent exodus of young Latino voters from the "D" side as a reason for T's win. They also said many were first-time voters who had no real party leanings, but were concerned about their own financial situation instead.
A KEY thing is that when "conservatives" talk about the other side being "Elite", they need to look in the mirror! Elon is not Elite? Melon is not Elite? etc., etc. etc. People with that kind of money are not "common" by any means! More "smoke and mirrors" people have heard far too much of it so they started believing it. Sure, there are "Elites" in the Democratic realm of thing, but they also exist in the Republican side too . . . which they don't want to admit to.
The "Party of Demonization" and "Party of Legislative Blockades" needs to be revealed for what it has become. And how much they did not get done during the times of those orientations, for the GOOD of the NATION. Increasing the national debt via tax cuts is not a positive achievement for the nation.
Infighting will occur among Republicans, as Trump has a track record of never accepting responsibility for policy failures, while blaming and throwing political supporters under the bus. Looking forward to the 2026 mid term elections to make much needed adjustments. :)
All the best my US buddies, (for all our sakes) but especially for you over ‘The Pond’, I hope everything settles for you and everyone, Hugs as always from Bob in 🇬🇧
In Canada our federal and provincial governments are already managing to face that shock wave of the 47 strange administration for the next 4 years. For the NAFTA he cannot blame Biden of the Democrats as he was the one who opened it and negociated it for USA. Sooner or later, your citizens will see and experience that nothing will change in their lives and that prices on gaz or groceries will still be going up. (BTW we pay $6.00 per gallon here in Montreal at Costco and $6.40/gal at a normal gaz station and we are not complaining on Trudeau because we know that he doesn't control prices but it's Arab nations and OPEP that fix the cost of oil) What seems not to get in the poor brainless 75 millions of Trump's voters is that is he a billionnaire and all his friends are billionnaires and that they don't give a shit over how normal Americans are living into their daily lives from check to check.

Is it possible that 75,000,000 people in the United(divided) States are suffering from the Stockholm Syndrome? Just curious...
ReplyDeleteThe Divided States of America....I like that!!!
