Is today his birthday? Big Dude
ReplyDeleteBig Dude - No. This was a spontaneous post.
DeleteAdmittedly, handsome, but as time passed his shtick and acting style became tired. But, he did appear in movies that had some memorable lines: Footlight Parade - Joan Blondell throughs her roommate out saying: "As long as there are sidewalks, you'll have a job!"
ReplyDeleteRamón - That's a great line.
DeleteI still think one of his greatest movies, one I watch every Fourth of July, is “Yankee Doodle Dandy“… it’s recorded that the dancing style he used in the movie, he actually copied from George M Cohan’s actual dancing style, and the tap dancing routine in the White House scene, as he comes down the stairs after meeting FDR, was completely improvised, not in the script… and that the director was so incredibly pissed that he would risk his life to do that improvisation, but realized later what a brilliant move it was, that he kept it in the movie. And the scene where he plays a very mobile FDR and his little speech and the fact that the movie came out at the beginning of the US’s entry into World War II, I always find brilliant…
ReplyDeleteAnon@1:41pm - I don't think I've ever seen that. Where have I been?
