Last pic) That is just downright shameful that they put down spikes like that so that the homeless cannot sleep under the bridge.

    1. Also keeps vehicles out of the mix, too. As law enforcement from using the area for turn-arounds and such, too. Not to forget vehicles hiding from HAIL under there.

  4. For the last few years, I have been fixated on the homeless. We have to do better.

I believe it all started in earnest when I lived in Vista-40 minutes- North of San Diego-and would hear all the stories about the homeless.

There were showers set up at specific locations. A few churches would allow individuals to utilize their parking lots during the week to park overnight. And in certain areas, there are local streets lined with campers and cars where some folks have jobs but can't afford the rent of an apartment. Why are we as a country nibbling around the edges and not tackling this pandemic head-on. And no, not all people on the streets are mentally ill and or on drugs. What tugs at me the hardest are the young people I see in Denver on the streets asking for handouts. How in the hell are these young people going to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps?"

Finland has tackled the homeless problem head-on and knocked it down. The United States could glean something from their efforts. I have included the link below. We as a country can and should do better. It's all about priorities. For starters maybe pulling back a few of the subsidies we pay out and taxing the rich comes to mind.

    1. Ah, but have you noticed the American tendency to believe nobody can teach us anything? When Katrina breached the levees in NOLA, the Dutch offered to show us a way to fix them. Who would know better than the Dutch? Dumbshit W refused.

  6. That last picture is happening in Tucson. Installing tons of big rocks in the freeway underpasses to deter the unhoused from finding shelter from the 109 days this year of over 100 degree heat (so far). As well as a place to rest. I just drove by one place and someone has started to stack the stones like people do at the beach. Also costs hundreds of thousands of dollars that aren't being spent on solving the problem. And this in a city with all Democratic mayor and city council.

  7. The problem is more difficult than simply putting up barriers. It is much more difficult than platitudes. From this ultra-liberal city (Seattle) I have grown frustrated by the homeless, the activist city council (gone now thank gods), and the citizenry that is sometimes too liberal for its own good.

The solution will be expensive, expensive, expensive. And people don't want to pay for it.

Then again, I am tired of the homeless not doing their part too. Doing drugs on busses, damaging public property, not following basic rules. I could go on. Help is out there. And the people I know who are trying to help might just as well bang their heads up against the wall.
