I'm wondering if the person in charge of permitting new road construction on that slithering highway was drunk when they okayed that project or if he got paid for the number of switchbacks in the design? I can see the rise in elevation but didn't anyone learn that the shortest distance between two points is a straight? Half of the switchbacks might have done the job. Pity the poor long haul truckers. This nightmare is on the way to Transylvania, yes that Transylvania, and after construction the locals decided that from above is what Dracula saw when he flew through the night. Interesting
ReplyDeleteMilleson - I see you did your research on that road's location.
DeleteActually, it’s what you don’t see in the picture… The sheer angle of the mountain would probably preclude a straight road because the angle would be so severe that any large vehicles or any vehicle of any type would have an impossible task of driving up the hill or the mountain… With all the switchbacks, at least the road is level and therefore easier to traverse up the mountain, although it might take longer…

ReplyDeleteNext to last pic) Yup, there's P-town, located at the extreme tip of Cape Cod in Barnstable County, Massachusetts, in the United States. A small coastal resort ... A favorite LGBTQ+ destination, Provincetown celebrates individuality and freedom of expression.
