Very representative of the late 19th century style, without the eclectic taste of Louis II of Bavaria. A huge foly, of sorts. And the testament of an era that was architecturally out of breath and ended up with the 1900 nonsense. Then a quick Art-Nouveau episode with Gaudi along with the Belgian school. And the fabulous Art-Deco (and its little Bauhaus brother) from both sides of the Atlantic. For me, this type of construction is representative of the lack of taste of an elite based solely on the money of the new industries, but without any artistic education. In this era, even the Brits had the good taste to tap into their unique Renaissance style - the Tudor's - to build their manor :-)
Love castles, on the other hand, no wonder Karl Marx was upset!
