Conservatives have been trying to normalize their, otherwise by prior standards, bad behavior for a long time. That he is being "treated poorly" for being convicted of a felony crime, by a jury, is just a continuation of that orientation. They are just setting the stage for more bad behavior they would not like to be done against them. Let a jury convict a liberal of similar things and they'd be rejoicing and congratulating the jury (as in the recent past).
