Amen on all this!
ReplyDeleteEVERYTHING above is TRUE!!! Getting complacent Democrats to fully understand that is the mission, should we choose to accept it (as it would have been said on "Mission Impossible").
ReplyDeleteCdadbr - We NEED to accept the assignment!
ReplyDeleteI am *cautiously* optimistic that Democrats will turn out in never before seen numbers in November, but at the same time I have a sick feeling that all we're doing is screaming into the void.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely true! All this whining about Biden didn't do this or that is irrelevant if we open the door to fascism. Wake up America and vote BLUE!
ReplyDeleteGreg - Absolutely!
ReplyDeleteWe've heard a lot about 'speaking truth to power' over the last 8 years. But if one thing's clear in contemporary politics, it's that Americans' capacity for delusive self-deception is bottomless. So how can we be sure of our own speech? Am I really speaking truth to power, or do I deceive myself? A great test of whether or not that's what we're up to is to ask, "Is this hard for me to say? Do I incur risk by saying it? Must I steel myself against the inevitable backlash to this statement from people in my social group? Is my opinion ignored or derided or outlawed or punished by powerful institutions? Does my speech and its consequences demand sacrifice of me, the speaker? Must I push past instincts of selfishness to give voice to a truth that may be difficult for me?"
ReplyDeleteSpeaking real truth to actual power will render a yes to all or most of the above. It should give us pause if these questions, answered honestly, turn up mostly negatives. Doing the work of truth is always hard. If the thing is easy, we're not speaking to power; we're just talking to ourselves.
