May Day

This mildly long NPR article explains it well...

What is May Day? For the most part, the opposite of capitalism

The second post is just what some of the world social democracies of the world are where capitalism is also in a way regulated but public money is there to help averyone.
Canada is like that and we are benefiting of many governement advantages which secure our lives.

Universal health care system is only one of them which insure every Canadian to be able to get medical care without fearing of to declare bankcrutpcy under thousands of dollars bills.

As to NPR, it seems that for many years, anybody "Right Wing" has considered NPR to be "left-wing socialists" who seek to spread their orientations to others, while getting "public money" to do so. I guess conservatives want to be able to do that with FOX News?

They now want to "defund NPR", not realizing that they have already taken away of all but about 30% of NPR's government-supplied funding already. I used to listen to Diane Rehm's show in MPR. She repeatedly stated that part of NPR's purpose was to provide respectful discussions from BOTH sides of a subject. She did an amazing job of seeking that goal, too! Sometimes, the convervative-side did not show up, though. As she seemed to take great offense that Republicans were always railing against NPR, but wanted "first crack" at getting on her show to promote and their books (Gingrich, for one), yet she allowed them to be on her show.

Republicans seem to want to "control the narrative" of all discussions. Claiming THEY are the only people who "know anything". It has seemed that this has consumed most of the time they should have been finding new and better-for-all, as they claim, better legislative alternatives for the nation. Much easier to block legislation from the other side of the aisle that work to actually do something that is better for the nation, it seems. I suspect that if many of them had jobs in larger corporations, they would have been fired (NOT by Trump!), but by others who could see thru their smoke about "doing something" where they were not. Let them talk about actually fixing things, rather than blocking the efforts of others to fix things, once and for all.

THEN, when Democrats actually build legislation to include many Republican ideas, giving them what they have said they want, the Republicans reject it as being bad. Why? Possibly "not invented by Republicans"? When Obama was digging us out of the last recession GWBush got us into, they said "It won't work", but it did. Then they said "We could have done it sooner", but they didn't. Not admitting that it was "Republicnan Values" that got us there in the first place!

@cdadbr,
What NPR means please? As many none Americans are puzzled by those acronyms like me French speaking Canadian. I know many of yours like POTUS, FEMA, SCOTUS, FBI, Cia to only name those which are largely used.

Sure that MTG is the most laughable...
