In Memoriam Rosalynn Carter

This was what a President and First Lady should be and how they should act. A man and a woman who got it right the first time, married 77 years and not just spouses but a full partner to each. Although achieving little during their one term in office, it was their life after the presidency that defined a couple so dedicated to helping man and woman kind. Habitat for Humanity will be forever linked with their names. Putting aside the infidelities of other Presidents, both Democrats and Republicans, this union was without scandal, a couple who knew the meaning of love and shared that love with all of us. Not a whisper of multiple marriages, extramarital affairs. dishonesty, or a porn star thrown in for good measure. Rosalynn and Jimmy are and were people we will rarely see in the future, exemplifying all the best qualities that a man and a woman can have. I mourn her passing and Jimmy's loss.
While it is a shame she has left us, my heart aches for Jimmy. Even though he is going downhill himself, he has to be devastated, since she was the only woman he loved. She said they got married at 18. There will never be another couple like them.
For as much as the country ridiculed them, the Carters were a class act. Just like when Nixon interfered with the end of the Vietnam war to get elected, Reagan shoved his nose into the Iran hostage situation in order to get elected. So, that's another thing we have Reagan to thank for: The totally fucked-up Middle East.
