The ideal would be a combination of the best of capitalism and socialism. A Swedish social democracy. My question is: is it possible with populous states (60 million in Italy) or very large ones like the United States?
ReplyDeleteobvious statement: politicians should at least begin to reduce the differences between very rich and very poor people.
ReplyDeleteThat last one: Yup. Whenever I encounter someone on the socials who is against socialism as, those are the things I cite and tell them they can no longer make use of or enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMany who advocate for "low taxes" seem to have forgotten what pays for the massive infrastructures needed to keep this country moving forward. AND paid for getting things to where they got to be in the expansive 1960s. Always better to plan for growth, than to have to hurry up and get things done in the last months after it happens and is ready to come online! All of the land for new fire stations and such should have been bought 30 years ago, plus new roads, too!
ReplyDelete@Xersex,
ReplyDeleteI live in Canada, Montreal province of Québec and we have almost the same social democracy as in Sweeden. Canada is around 40 million of people and P. of Québec we are around 8 million people and we with our taxes from ALL citizens can pay for all the infrastructures of our society including universal health care, medicare, car insurance for the wonded or dead, low cost college and universities.
(one year in an university is around $6000/year, a Canadian coming to P. of Q, has to pay $20 000/year and students from USA or other countries must pay $40 000/ year)
We contribute to two national pension reserves which we can widraw at 60yo for the provincial one and 65yo for the federal one.
The issue in USA is that their capitalist system views socialism as «communism» and that their way of seeing socialism has to be only for the rich ones.
But the other issue is that most of them don't want to pay income taxes or any taxes and still want to enjoy the benefits of federal and states interventions.
Thank God I live in Canada
