1957 Walter Molino Illustration
An elephant has exploded. In the enclosure of the Fiera di Roma some workers were intent on inflating a large rubber balloon in the shape of an elephant, when the envelope suddenly exploded and the hydrogen contained in it, in contact with the air, caught fire, spreading all around a rain of fire. The workers and several of the visitors who witnessed the scene were engulfed in the flames that had set their clothes, while others were literally stripped naked by the violence of the explosion. Sixteen people had to be hospitalized. Illustration for La Domenica Del Corriere, 23 June 1957.
