Definition of right-wing authoritarian personality...
They are highly submissive to established authority, aggressive in the name of that authority and conventional to the point of insisting everyone should behave as their authorities decide. They are fearful and self-righteous and have a lot of hostility in them that they readily direct toward various out-groups. They are easily incited, easily led, rather un-inclined to think for themselves, largely impervious to facts and reason and rely instead on social support to maintain their beliefs. They bring strong loyalty to their in-groups, have thick-walled, highly compartmentalized minds, use a lot of double standards in their judgments, are surprisingly unprincipled at times and are often hypocrites.
Probably about 20 to 25 percent of the adult American population is so right-wing authoritarian, so scared, so self-righteous, so ill-informed and so dogmatic that nothing you can say or do will change their minds. They would march America into a dictatorship and probably feel that things had improved as a result. ... And they are so submissive to their leaders that they will believe and do virtually anything they are told. They are not going to let up and they are not going away.
Canadians were asked to name the "greatest" Canadian. They named Tommy Douglas, founder of national health care. He was the premier of Saskatchewan.
ReplyDeleteAmericans named Ronald Reagan.
His article and data tend to correlate to Trump's base numbers. Plus their perceived loyalty to him. Also tends to explain why so many of his supporters, on their OWN dime, went to D.C. on 01/06 ready "for war".
ReplyDeleteI never could really figure out why sane, normal people would spend so much money to go to D.C., with their "toys", ready to do battle. Where was the monetary and time investment's pay-off for them? Was Trump going to send each of them a personalized "Thank You" note with some money in it? No, they were just doing "their duty" to please "their leader". They probably felt that if they got arrested, Trump could pardon them, but in the few days he had left in office? What were they thinking???
After all, they were just following Trump's desires. What's wrong with that?, they might say. Apparently much of Trump's "base" did not pay attention during American History or Government classes! IF they had, they should have known that the bulk of what he claimed he could do, he could NOT DO under our Constitution and our Three Equal Sections of Government. Ignorance might be "bliss", but look where it has gotten this nation!
A side issue is that Republicans have successfully positioned themselves a "the authority" on so many things, only magnified by the far-right operatives. Democrats have chosen "the high road" to deal with them, with little success, by observation. Democrats and independents must defeat the Republicans and put them in their place, ridding their party of Trump's influence.
Republicans have been about "smoke, mirrors, and diversion" to make it look like they are doing something, but accomplishing NOTHING . . . for decades. The nation is suffering from their activities, it seems to me. That needs to change. Lets make it so!
Democrats need a sane, charismatic, even-handed leader for future elections. Whom might that be? And is electable by the masses!
Trump wanted to be "in the history books", which he certainly will be. Just that in 7 short years, his influences will be still be being undone for more than 50 years from now.
`leftField said is as Tommy Douglas brought us, Canadian, the first universal health care sytem in Saskatshewan which was after mandatory to all the other provinces.
ReplyDeleteHe did go to Ottawa as the leader of the NDP (National Democratic Party) in 1961.
Today the NDP with its leader Jakmin Sing has the balance of the power as the Liberal Party with Justin Trudeau are a minority government. The NDP did influence Trudeau to put in place the first «universal dental care system» steps of a national wide advantage.
We are a social democracy and also a capitalism system where we make it viable for all Canadian to benefit of our weatlh.
For this, even if we aren't Christian extremists, we do live according to Jesus teaching of Love, Charity and Hope.

Cdadbr - Unfortunately, the cancer that is the "golden idol" has spread to many places around the world.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rick, for the link to the source. It was a revelation to read the information of what is happening to our social and political life. Also, I'm reminded of my childhood during the progress of WWII. The motto was if you wanted to save democracy, you had to fight for it. I don't see too many people fighting (and I don't been physically) or shouting as loudly as the other side. The apathy in our country is, I suggest, a major factor in this "take over." It's easy to become complacent and to excuse steps needed to overcome the inertia inhibition to act.
