The American people are so scared of the word «communism» that they wrongly associate «socialism» to it.
In Canada like in France and many other democratic capitalist countries, we live in a «social democracy» where we have put in place for decades a social net for everyone like universal health care and other systems to redistribuate wealth and safety no matter who.
We have very wealthy people but with the income taxes for ALL will provide enough money to sustain those social benefits.
Our universities are funded and the students fees are only at 18% of the full cost of the fees. Average cost for a student goes around $6000/can per year.
We provide also parental leave for the women and men for 6 months to take care of the new born. Not mentionning that abortion is available and is paid by our universal health care.
We maybe have NO religion in our institutions but we do care for each other.
Yes it's a very nice country, not a perfect one but I better like to live here in Montreal than in USA. Many people are coming here from USA to try to immigrate here for the reasons I mentionned earlier. Many are from South America, Mexico or the «Arab» countries.
The problem for them is that going to USA to come immigrate here is a bad idea as USA is consider, no matter what, a third safe country and many are pushed back in USA by our immigration office.
